Nipah virus, a bat-borne paramyxovirus found throughout South and South East Asia, has been identified by WHO as an emerging infectious disease that may cause severe epidemics in the near future. Infections in humans result in severe respiratory and neurological disease with a high case fatality. With no available treatment or vaccine, the control of Nipah virus outbreaks must rely on a detailed understanding of factors that may facilitate inter-human transmission.

We would remind you that all Institut Pasteur staff are warmly invited to attend the international scientific conference "130 Years of Institut Pasteur: Celebrating Science", which will take place next week, from May 15 to 17, 2019, on the Paris campus. It will be held in the CIS auditorium, and there will also be a screening in the Émile Duclaux lecture hall. The conference will be an opportunity to showcase the exciting research currently under way at the Institut Pasteur – the legacy of 130 years of excellence.
A new rabies prevention center has been opened in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. The Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, in collaboration with the Provincial Health Department and the provincial hospital where it is temporarily based, opened the center to the public on March 7.
To mark European Sustainable Development Week, which will take place from May 30 to June 5, 2019, the Quality, Environment and Sustainable Development Department is organizing various activities to present the measures adopted by the Institut Pasteur in this area and discuss the issue of sustainable development.
