ERC, Laval virtual Europe awards, Trophées Marketing Content First, French Society for Cell Biology Young Researcher Award: several Institut Pasteur scientists recognized

  • Shahragim Tajbahksh selected for funding by the European Research Council

The European Research Council (ERC) announced on the 26th April the results of the 2021 Advanced Grant applications. This year 253 grants were awarded in different domains of research. Shahragim Tajbakhsh, responsible for the Stem Cells and Development Unit at Institut Pasteur, received an award for his project STENIPATH (Stem and niche cell dynamics in normal and pathological conditions). This project focuses on how tissue-specific stem cell populations are unexpectedly perturbed in pathological contexts.

The ERC is the label of European scientific excellence. It allows the recruitment and funding of the best international researchers in Europe, and above all to develop European scientific competitiveness. This is the second ERC Advanced grant awarded to Shahragim Tajbakhsh.

For your information :

The Grants Office team will support you during the writing, administrative/financial set up, and submission of your ERC project to the European Commission. • Laval Virtual Europe – 24th edition: awards for the DIVA platform and the Avatar Medical project

Laval Virtual is a leading virtual and augmented reality exhibition that brings together passionate XR professionals from all over the world. During this three-day event, the international XR community has the opportunity to discuss the latest trends, discover promising startups, and better understand the industrial stakes of immersive technologies.

The ReVolution competition selects the most innovative and pioneering startups that use virtual and augmented reality to transform the immersive field.

DIVA and AVATAR MEDICAL™ were the winners of several awards at Laval Virtual Europe 2022. This innovation in image analysis and visualization is based on Bayesian approaches to data processing. AVATAR MEDICAL uses DIVA technology, developed jointly over the past four years by the Decision and Bayesian Computation research team led by Jean-Baptiste Masson at the Institut Pasteur and the Light-Based Observation and Control of Cellular Organization laboratory at the Institut Curie, previously led by the late Maxime Dahan.

AVATAR MEDICAL won the ReVolution #Startups International Award while DIVA, the technology powering AVATAR MEDICAL, was awarded the VR/AR Healthcare Award and the Grand Prix.

With these wins, AVATAR MEDICAL is recognized for its technical prowess in immersive visualization, further justifying its mission to radically improve how surgeons access, interpret and act upon medical images.

  • Podcasts produced by the Legacies Office awarded the Gold Trophy in the Audio First category at the "Marketing Content First Trophies, 100% digital"

Just under a year ago, in summer 2021, the Legacies Office launched its first ever series of podcasts. Broadening its development plan in a bid to connect more effectively with the public and embrace new communication methods, it developed a series of five podcasts about the history of legacies at the Institut Pasteur by telling the story of five particularly memorable legacies received, from Daniel Iffla-Osiris, Marguerite Boucicaut, the Duchess of Windsor, Amicie Lebaudy and Mathilde Courbe. All five left their mark not only on history but also on the history of the Institut Pasteur (see the July 2, 2021 issue of the newsletter).

On March 24, these legacies podcasts were recognized at the award ceremony for the "Marketing Content First Trophies, 100% digital," an event for the most innovative marketing content projects in 2021-2022. The podcast series A history of legacies received the Gold Trophy in the Audio First category.

New episodes are currently under preparation for a second season entitled Hope in heritage, which will show how past legacies have paved the way for current and future large-scale research projects at the Institut Pasteur in response to major public health challenges.

  • French Society for Cell Biology – 2022 Young Researcher Award

Each year the French Society for Cell Biology (SBCF) helps to promote the field of cell biology by presenting an award to a young researcher working within the discipline. The award recognizes outstanding scientific achievement and cell biology research, and the winner receives a grant of €5,000.

This year, Thibaut Brunet, Head of the Evolutionary Cell Biology and Evolution of Morphogenesis five-year group (G5), has been awarded this prize for his research on the evolution of animal morphogenesis using an emerging cell biology model, choanoflagellates.

He will have the opportunity to present his research during a seminar that he will give at the General Assembly of the French Society for Cell Biology on June 3 at the Institut Cochin.
