BIP : The Institut Pasteur Newsletter, May 4, 2018

institution

After 100 days in a new post it is customary to compare the achievements with the original objectives and route map. When Stewart Cole began as President of the Institut Pasteur his initial task was to consolidate and complete the senior management team, the CODIR.  It is unnecessary to remind you that Institut Pasteur’s “raison d’être” is to perform world-class biomedical research and thus the first priority was to place science at the core of the CODIR’s activities and to appoint a scientific director with outstanding bandwidth.

award

The European Research Council (ERC) has published the results of its 2017 Advanced Grant call for proposals. Pierre-Jean Corringer, Head of the Channel Receptors Unit, was selected for his project Dynacotine (Signal transduction and allosteric modulation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors: from ion channel electrophysiology to atomic 3D structures).

event

The Institut Pasteur is one of the organizers of "Lab Santé", a "hackathon"-style event on the theme of health, which will be held in central Paris from June 1 to 3. Whether or not you have your own idea, come along and join a team at the "Lab Santé" hackathon, where you can turn an idea into a start-up in 50 hours!

Sponsorship

The Institut Pasteur's long-standing partner Sanofi is renewing its commitment to research by organizing the Sanofi-Institut Pasteur Awards for the seventh year running. These awards go to scientists and their teams whose discoveries lead to practical applications in research fields with a major impact on global health.

Donors

The latest issue of the quarterly newsletter for Institut Pasteur donors – the "Lettre de l'Institut Pasteur" (LIP) – contains a special feature on allergies. More than one in every four people in Europe currently suffer from allergies, and WHO predicts that by 2050 half of all those living in industrialized countries will be affected.
