Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
On May 14, 2007, almost ten years ago to the day, the Institut Pasteur, represented by its President Alice Dautry, and the French National Conservatory of Arts and Trades (CNAM), represented by Managing Director Laurence Paye-Jeanneney, signed an agreement to set up the Pasteur-CNAM School of Public Health.
This project, designed to meet the growing demand for higher education in public health in France and abroad, drew on the complementary nature of the two institutes: the CNAM with its expertise in social science and health security, and the Institut Pasteur for its role as a key player in epidemiology and the fight against infectious risks. The initiative resulted in the launch of an Advanced Master's in Public Health, recognized by the French Conférence des Grandes Ecoles and run in partnership with the School of Advanced Studies in Public Health (EHESP).
This program combines teaching on the fundamental principles of public health, which takes place at the CNAM for three months, with a specialization in infectious risks, taught at the Institut Pasteur for four months, and a six-month internship in a research institute, health agency, international organization or NGO.
For nine successive years, the Pasteur-CNAM School of Public Health has hosted a total of 174 students, ranging from doctors and scientists to pharmacists, veterinarians and sociologists. More than half of the students have completed their internship abroad, 40 within the Institut Pasteur International Network. Cooperation between the Institut Pasteur and the CNAM has also led to the launch of several MOOCs in epidemiology, vaccinology, entomology and neuroscience.
To celebrate these outstanding achievements, a ceremony to mark the tenth anniversary of the Pasteur-CNAM School of Public Health was held on April 28 at the Institut Pasteur, attended by Institut Pasteur President Christian Bréchot, CNAM Managing Director Olivier Faron, Executive Director for Education Monica Sala, Director of the Pasteur-CNAM School of Public Health Arnaud Fontanet, and a large number of alumni who came back specially for the occasion.
