2015 Scientific Symposium of the Institut Pasteur International Network

crqsds7wgaaqafm.jpg Wednesday October 14 saw the opening of the Scientific Symposium of the Institut Pasteur International Network (RIIP) on the Paris campus. This year’s event was attended by almost 900 participants and based on the theme "Global Health and One Health", looking at the need for a global approach to health research.

 

The aim of the event is to strengthen and boost international scientific cooperation within the International Network, particularly in the areas of infectious diseases and public health. Several sessions have taken place since October 14. Prestigious speakers and young scientists from across the world have come together to discuss the latest scientific advances in the areas of Ebola, microbial resistance, zoonoses and emerging diseases, HIV/AIDS, "Health and environment", vaccinology, chemistry/drug screening and non-communicable diseases – subjects that will be of crucial importance to health in the coming years.

  • During the session on Ebola, special homage was paid to all the stakeholders engaged in the fight against Ebola. The Symposium organizers and senior management team expressed their sincere thanks to all those who provided assistance and resources to combat the virus in the lab and/or in the field.

 

  • At the end of the first day of the Scientific Symposium of the Institut Pasteur International Network, four agreements were signed that will set up large research projects to improve child health in the areas of malnutrition, whooping cough, hepatitis B and hand-foot-mouth diseasen.

    Funded thanks to the support of the Total Foundation, the projects will be implemented by members of the Institut Pasteur International Network as well as the Agence de Medecine Preventive and LAMIVAC. They will advance research while strengthening sustainable manner local capacity to fight against these infectious diseases.

  • The "Health and environment" session on Thursday, October 15 was run with the support of the Government of the Principality of Monaco, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Scientific Centre of Monaco (flyer).

 

Several other events, such as awards, will be taking place during the symposium until October 16, 6:30pm
