Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
The theme for this year's Scientific Symposium of the Institut Pasteur International Network, which took place from October 14 to 16, 2015, was "Global Health and One Health".
The 710 participants focused their attention on the issues surrounding the development of a global approach to health research.
This event, which was designed to strengthen and boost international scientific cooperation within the International Network, particularly in the areas of infectious diseases and public health, was divided into a series of scientific sessions. Prestigious speakers and young scientists from across the world came to discuss the latest scientific advances that will have a major impact on public health in the coming years.
The symposium was a reflection of the diversity and wealth of expertise within the Institut Pasteur International Network, combined with the input of leading speakers from outside the network who spoke about key issues.
There were many highlights over the three days, including the session on Ebola (see the October 16 newsletter), at which a special tribute was paid to all those involved in the fight against Ebola, and the "Health and environment" session, run with the support of the Government of the Principality of Monaco, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Scientific Centre of Monaco, which fund several projects within the International Network.
The lively "Breakthrough ideas session" was an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas on ways of developing cooperation with the Institut Pasteur International Network. Three mature projects that emerged from the 2014 session were presented, along with 24 new projects (including 10 from Monash University in Australia).
A prize-giving ceremony was also held on Friday, October 16 as part of the symposium:
the 2014 Dedonder Clayton Award was presented by Profs. Christian Bréchot and Françoise Barré-Sinoussi to Oanh Thi Hai Khuat (MD, MSc, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Supporting Community Development Initiatives, Vietnam) for her commitment and for the originality of her proposal "No one left behind – Understand HIV risks and burden and mitigation approaches among most marginalized adolescents in Vietnam".
the Robert Deschiens Prize from the Society of Exotic Pathology was presented by Yves Buisson to Anne Lavergne from the Institut Pasteur in French Guiana.
the Award for a Young Scientist in the Institut Pasteur International Network was presented by Antoine Gessain and Eliane Coëffier to Janin Nouhin from the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia for the best oral presentation from a young scientist in the International Network.
