The Institut Pasteur in Paris has opened a vast new insectarium for rearing mosquitoes with the potential to transmit arboviruses – viruses transmitted between vertebrates via a bite from a hematophagous vector. By rearing large quantities of mosquitoes in controlled conditions at this new facility, scientists will be better equipped to tackle future challenges associated with emerging vector-borne diseases.

The development of research applications is one of the objectives of the Institut Pasteur's 2019-2023 Strategic Plan. On November 29, 2018, to support the Institut Pasteur's efforts in this area, the President set up a Consultative Innovation Committee composed of scientists from the Institut Pasteur and members of the various sections of the Research Applications and Industrial Relations Department.
Over the past 13 years, Institut Pasteur staff have gone the extra mile to raise funds for Pasteurdon. Keen runners in particular have had the opportunity to support Pasteurdon in recent years by taking part in some of the French capital's top road races.
"Vivons Vélo", the sports-based fundraising program run by AG2R LA MONDIALE in aid of the Institut Pasteur, organizes regular bike rides for budding cyclists in around 15 towns and cities across France, including Paris. The first opportunity to hop on your bike and start clocking up the kilometers for the Institut Pasteur took place on April 6. AG2R LA MONDIALE converts every kilometer cycled into donations. The target for 2019 is €100,000!
