Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
Any biology textbook will tell you that the AIDS virus (HIV) has nine genes. The existence of a tenth gene, asp, was suggested in the late 1980s but remained a point of contention. However, this claim has recently been confirmed by scientists from the CNRS and the Institut Pasteur, who compared 23,000 sequences of HIV and SIV (the equivalent of HIV in non-human primates).
The Department of Communications has recently produced a film entitled Lutter contre la résistance du paludisme aux médicaments: Le gène K13 (Fighting Drug Resistant Malaria: The K13 gene).
The first structure of a member of an essential DNA polymerase family (polD) found in archaea, one of the three main 'domains' of life, was recently determined by crystallography by a team involving scientists from the CNRS, the Institut Pasteur and IFREMER.
This symposium will take place within the framework of the Grand Programme Fédérateur Microbes & Brain (GPF M&B)...
In order to launch new collaborations with the Institut Pasteur International network, the Center for Translational Science and the Department of International affairs organize a "breakthrough" session...
The next session will take place on Tuesday November 8, 2016, from 8.30 to 10.30am in room 28-01-01A of the François Jacob building. The speaker will be Florence Séjourné.
The Education Department renews for the year 2016/2017 its outreach-school program (stage de 3ème) for their observation training. 50-60 students in total will be welcomed on December 12 to 16, 2016 and from January 30 to February 3, 2017.
1st-, 2nd-, 3rd- and 4th-year PhD students working on the Institut Pasteur campus are eligible for a refund of their enrollment fees at universities...

• Open desk HAL-Pasteur
On Wednesday October 19, 2016, Marie-Christine Saragosse, Chief Executive Officer of France Médias Monde, and Christian Bréchot, President of the Institut Pasteur, signed a framework partnership agreement which provides for the organization of joint communications campaigns and the exchange of content.
On November 5, the television channel ARTE will broadcast the premiere of a new documentary entitled "These microbes that govern us".
The technology in the badges used to access the Paris site is being changed, which means that all staff will be issued with a new badge...
A fire drill will be conducted by the Paris Fire Department (BSPP) in the basement of the François Jacob building on November 3.
We'll look forward to seeing you again on Thursday November 10.
► Focus on: Upcoming calls for projects - "Chemistry, Screening": 2017 edition of the Global Care Initiative consortium
The Global Care initiative consortium at the Institut Pasteur is pleased to launch its 2016-2017 edition of call for research proposals.
By combining human resources and automated instrumentation at the Institut Pasteur, the Global Care initiative with the Chemogenomic and Biological Screening platform (PF-CCB) of the Citech center, give additional support to research projects with applicative potentials to foster industrial partnerships, and aiming at:
1. Developing innovative and robust target-based and phenotypic screening assays using various detection technologies (absorbance, fluorescence, luminescence, fluorescence polarization, TR-FRET, bio-layer interferometry and imaging),
2. Facilitating conversion of cell-based, microscopy image-based and biochemical assays to medium/high-throughput/automation compatible formats,
3. Helping identify high quality hits and facilitating the transition into new therapeutic candidates (small molecules and peptidomimetics), using academic, commercial, homemade and virtual chemical libraries,
4. Isolating specific compounds for dissecting new molecular pathways associated with infection diseases and human pathologies,
The Global Care initiative can give support for a period of maximum 12 months to a research team in the Institut Pasteur, with 12 months availability of scientific personnel provided by the Chemogenomic and Biological Screening platform (post-doc or engineer) and 20 k€ maximum for operation budget.
